Baby Appliqué

You may remember a previous post about some appliqué babygrows, well this weekend I improved on these and created three cute t-shirts for a very special little boy. I used the same designs as before but this time I sewed them on as I discovered the stupid adhesive I used before does not actually stick and comes off in the wash (rubbish).

I used some bright coloured t-shirts and then ironed on the shapes using the aforementioned rubbish adhesive. I figured this would help hold in place with the assistance of the stitching.

This cute little tie is cut from a light blue cotton with navy Winnie the Pooh detailing which is just adorable. I like how it is 'Winnie the Pooh' without being obvious.

The spanner and hammer are cut from a brilliant fabric with all sorts of tools on it and it is a lovely bright and colourful pattern. I call it 'Bob the Builder print'! Against the blue and red t-shirts, the little tools really stand out. I think babies' clothes should be bright and colourful and these definitely fit the bill!

I'm quite pleased with the zig zag stitching as I haven't done this before, and the Mummy loved these tops! Can someone please have a baby girl so I can do some of my other ideas??

Babygrows

I made these ages ago but as they were a pressie, I haven't been able to blog about them til now. I saw something similar on another blog and when I found the tool fabric I knew just what to do with it!

And I found some really cute winnie the pooh fabric which I just had to buy. What I like about this one is that it's not too in your face 'winnie the pooh' if you know what I mean.

Hopefully when little Oliver grows into these his mummy might send a few pics. If you know any babies that should be wearing one of these please let me know!

Bags of fun!

I finally found some heat and bond transfer stuff at the weekend so can finish a few things I had on the go. My prototypes for the drawstring bags turned out in the end but were hindered be a couple of things:
1- My rubbish miniature sewing machine. It's just not powerful enough to go through more than two layers of cotton.
2- My clueless-ness about making bags! Am thinking I should have made more of an effort in the sewing classes at school...

Anyway, they are finished now and while they're not going to win any prizes they are presentable enough.

This is the first one I did, and it turned out a bit of a square shape cos I measured it wrong, so it's a bit small... And I changed the ribbon as it was too wide for the gaps I made. All in all though, not bad for the very first one, me thinks!! I didn't know how to make it more interesting, esp as it was finished and it was too late to sew anything on, so I experimented with ironing on letter shapes.

This is the second one and it turned out much better! I ironed on the zebra print bra and knickers to liven it up a bit. I just love this print, even though animal prints are not normally my thing! And I used a white cord this time which looks really nice and does a good job.

I think more practice is required but it will probably only take one or two more to perfect them!
