A jolly day out by the sea

As I progress through my pregnancy, it's becoming more important to me that Mr PC and I spend time together doing things as a couple. Sometimes this is just vegging out in front of the telly, but mostly it's about going out and doing things while we are still free to do as we please. Once the Little Poppet arrives, we will still go out and do stuff, but the dynamic will be different so I want us to make the most of the time we have left while it's still just the two of us.

This bank holiday we decided to visit Leigh-on-Sea which we haven't been to in years. We had a fab day out mooching along the old town and treated ourselves to a posh lunch at The Boatyard. I thought I'd share a few pics from the day, you will see that seafood featured heavily which was a shame for me as I'm not supposed to eat it at the moment but Mr PC loved it though which makes me happy.

I've discovered I rather like decopatch having tried it a couple of weeks ago. Here's my second decopatch project:

I have also discovered another new craft, patchwork. I went to a great workshop at Make Do & Mend and learned to make a hexagon pin cushion. We also got a copy of Cath Kidston's book Patch! to take home!

I'm pleased to finally tell you all that Mr PC & I are expecting our first baby! Estimated arrival 3rd October. Everything is going well and we're over the moon!

Cake and snow

What was your weekend like? Mine was punctuated by two things: cake and snow.

I made the Ultimate Chocolate Cake from The Boy Who Bakes book in honour of Mr PC's birthday and boy was it good!!

 

I found the recipe a bit faffy as there were a few stages, but it was worth it in the end. This cake was delicious and needless to say there is none left! It ended up being a two tier because the third tier had a run in with the greaseproof paper...

Vintage cake plates are far nicer than cake boards! 

Sunday was a really lazy and quiet day as we got about 6-8 inches of snow during the night and the roads were a bit of a state around our area. I love snow (deprived of it as child) and really hate it when someone spoils it by tramping great big foot prints in it. So I made Mr PC retrace his steps when he had to go out to the shed so that there were only one set of footprints in the garden! We did go out for a bit and cleared the cars so we could get them out if we needed to. I made a snow angel but by the time I got back up off the ground it looked more like a snow hippo! And my coat got totally soaked in the process. I don't remember this happening when I was a kid... We also had a fit of a snowball fight but I called a truce when I got hit right in the face!

Random Pics

Is it me or is January a really long month? On the one hand this is good because I decided to give myself a (much needed) break from a number of things in January. But on the other hand, January is rather a dreary month and at times it feels like it's just dragging on. Shouldn't complain really, as the weather has been quite nice considering the time of year. Cold, but mainly sunny so it's staving off those January Blues everyone keeps talking about.

I've not been doing much crafting really, but there are a lot of ideas ruminating in my mind and once these have formed themselves into something, I'll be sharing what my plans will be! Most evenings and a lot of the weekends so far this year have been spent curled up on the couch watching the telly box and doing some crochet. Utter bliss and such a change from the hectic few months I've had since October! I did want to share a random selection of photos which kind of sum up the goings on of the last couple of weeks.

Normal service may resume shortly, I'm not sure yet. I'm quite liking taking a break from it all and pootling about doing nothing in particular.

It's all over!

Christmas was wonderful in our house, lots of great food and spending time with friends and family. Lots of chill out time relaxing with nothing but telly watching to do. And lots of lovely pressies to keep us occupied for a good while!

All the decorations are packed away now and the house has resumed to normality. The living room feels HUGE without the tree in it! This always surprises me every January, I like it! Aside from the odd pine needle here and there, there are only two traces of the Christmas season left:

The weather here is atrocious at the moment and I'm sitting here in the middle of the day with the lights on because it's so dark. The garden is so bare it's a depressing sight, and the Christmas tree has been unceremoniously dumped out there til we figure out how to get rid of it.

On the plus side, I still have loads of great telly to watch on the Sky+ box and January always brings new series of some of my fave programmes, so I'll be snuggling with my blankets and crochet in front of the goggle box for the next few weeks!
